The incessant rains lashing valley since the wee hours of Monday morning have hit the cross LoC trade with 35 vehicles from valley stranded near Red Bridge, 14km from the main market Uri in North Kashmir.

The rainfall drowned the road towards the lower side of Red Bridge last evening which forced authorities to halt the LoC trade immediately. The officials informed Kashmir Life that vehicles coming from Pakistan administrated Kashmir have been pushed back while 35 vehicles from valley are still stranded at Red Bridge.

The incessant rainfall has triggered a flood like situation in Hapatkhai, Lachipora, Bijhama, Tartanjan, Hundi, Dela, Maya and Noorkah.

Kameshwar Puri, SDPO Uri, told Kashmir Life that police has made an announcement over public addressing systems cautioning people to stay alert or get shifted to community halls till the danger of flood subsides.

“Last year, a dam located at the upper parts of Maya burst due to incessant rainfall and drowned 30 odd households,” SDPO Kameshwar Puri told Kashmir Life. “To prevent any such situation again, we are alerting people beforehand.”
