The incessant rains inundated the whole Srinagar city. The roads, lanes and by-lanes of all the localities in civil lines and old city are completely drenched.

The pedestrians are facing difficulties to walk on the waterlogged roads. Most of the Lal Chowk looked like a canal.

Locals said, “SMC is in deep slumber as they have failed to look into the miseries of the local population. They should have at least refurbished the poor drainage system so that the problems faced by the people here would be solved once for all.”

They said that they are being pushed to walls due to the poor drainage system in their area.

Residents and traders said that the government has not taken the city seriously even though the devastating September 2014 floods had identified the grey areas. “But this is not flood,” one trader in Lal Chowk said. “It is just rain and see where we are?”

People are laughing at the idea of upgrading Srinagar to a smart city. Every time such a situation arises, the officials have their justification for the happenings.
