SRINAGAR: In a welcome turn of events, rains have finally drenched parts of the Kashmir Valley, while the higher reaches, including the critical Zojila Pass, experienced a fresh layer of snowfall on Monday, according to the Meteorological office.

The Meteorological office reported that Zojila Pass, a strategic point on the Srinagar-Ladakh highway, witnessed fresh snowfall, bringing relief to the region. At the same time, areas such as Bandipora and Ganderbal, received much-needed rains, putting an end to the prolonged dry spell that had gripped the area.

As of now, rain is falling across several locations in the south, north, and central parts of the Kashmir Valley, with the upper reaches of Doda-Kishtwar in Jammu division experiencing snowfall. Samba also received showers, while other regions in Jammu and Kashmir remain dry.

The rain is expected to subside by the afternoon, with the forecast indicating fair to partly cloudy weather in Kashmir and partly to generally cloudy conditions in Doda, Jammu division, as reported by the Meteorological office.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain fairly to partly cloudy in both the Jammu and Kashmir regions from October 3 to 8. Furthermore, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall at scattered locations, with a 60-70 percent chance during October 9-10. This forecast bodes well for farmers, as the weather is expected to be favorable for harvesting and outdoor activities during this period.

On Monday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius, with Qazigund registering 12.0 degrees Celsius and receiving 4.6mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, Pahalgam experienced a low of 8.6 degrees Celsius and received 9.1mm of rainfall. Gulmarg recorded a low temperature of 7.0 degrees Celsius.

This change in weather conditions has brought optimism to the region, putting an end to the extended dry spell and providing hope for more favorable climate conditions in the days to come.
