KL Report

Senior PDP leader and Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Saturday called for collective and concerted effort to bring political stability and economic prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir. He said people from various thoughts should exhibit great sense of responsibility to help Kashmir come out of the difficult situation it has been pushed into because of devastating floods and rampant misgovernance.

“The PDP-BJP coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is working through a multipronged strategy, as enumerated in its Agenda for Alliance, to institutionalize political stability, economic prosperity and administrative responsibleness,” Akhtar said while addressing a PDP workers convention here.

He said peace in Kashmir can’t be restored in isolation and a beginning has been made at the highest level in the country to involve Pakistan in purposeful parleys, which has been positively responded by Government of Pakistan. “At the internal level also a beginning has to be made to involve all the stakeholders in meaningful talks to end the decades old political impasse in the State,” he said and added that Kashmir is struggling to cope up with the trail of destruction and economic distress left behind by the devastating floods on September 2014 and the State Government is working at various levels to reconstruct the damaged infrastructure and revive the affected livelihood. He said hectic efforts are being made by the Government to revive tourism in Kashmir which is one of the key contributors to the State economy.

“However, instead of helping people to come out of the economic distress, efforts are being made by certain quarters to create an unpleasant image outside about Kashmir by raising inconsequential issues,” he said and added that at a time when the people desperately yearn for reprieve, such isolated and superfluous incidents only make the things difficult for them.

Akhtar said that instead of adding to the people’s miseries and pushing them further into economic deprivation, various sections of the society, cutting across the political divide should cooperate in reviving the much-needed economic activity in the State to give a fresh push to the growth rate which has taken a severe hit because of floods and misgovernance. “We have to work together towards stabilizing JK’s political and economic situation instead of creating such conditions where people get further pushed towards deprivation and distress,” he said.

Addressing the convention senior PDP leader and Minister for Rural Development, Abdul Haq Khan said that various initiatives are being taken by the Government for the development of Bandipora and its adjoining areas. He said besides laying a network of new roads and upgrading existing roads under CRF, PMGSY and MG-NREGA, various initiatives are in the pipeline to develop virgin tourist spots in the district. He said various projects are also being implemented for the development and beautification of Bandipora and Sumbal towns. He said a Jawahar Novodiya Vidyalya is also being established in the district to impart quality education to the local youth.

PDP General Secretary, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Member Parliament, Fayaz Ahmad Mir and Member Legislative Assembly, Yasir Reshi also addressed the convention.
