Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrives at Srinagar Airport on Saturday for a two-day visit to attend the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations in Drass.

During the visit, Singh will travel to the Drass sector in Kargil district to pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil conflict. He is scheduled to attend the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations at the Kargil War Memorial on Sunday.

The armed forces will mark the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, commemorating the successful culmination of Operation Vijay, through which Indian forces recaptured strategic positions occupied during the 1999 conflict.

Officials said the Defence Minister will participate in a solemn ceremony at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the personnel who fought in the nearly three-month-long war in the high-altitude region.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War and to pay homage to the armed forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay.
