SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant and a soldier were killed while two soldiers and a policeman sustained injuries in an encounter at Narla village of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Tuesday.

Quoting officials, KNO reported that after receiving inputs about the suspicious movement of militants in the Narla village of Rajouri district, Army and police launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the area falling under Teryath police post.

Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that in the operation one soldier  lost his life while a militant was also killed. “After intense search, contact was established with the militants after which a fierce encounter broke out,” he said, adding in the ensuing gunfight, one unidentified militant was killed while three soldiers and a cop sustained injuries.

“Among the injured soldiers, one succumbed while the other two and the policeman are being treated at the hospital. Body of the slain militant was spotted but wasn’t retrieved as intense exchange of firing was going on,” he said.

A source said two more militants are suspected to be hiding in the forest area. “Cordon layers have been tightened from all sides and lights have been installed to trace the hiding militants,” he said.
