SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 12,915 registrations of women-owned manufacturing MSMEs in 2025-26, while the number of such enterprises reported closed on the Udyam Registration Portal rose to 181, according to data tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The figures, provided by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in response to Unstarred Question No. 1696, showed that women-owned manufacturing MSMEs in JK reported 6,75,920 jobs in 2025-26, the highest employment figure recorded in the five-year data presented to Parliament.
The number of registrations in JK stood at 6,409 in 2021-22, rising to 9,934 in 2022-23 and 40,082 in 2023-24, before declining to 21,979 in 2024-25 and 12,915 in 2025-26.
Employment reported by these enterprises increased from 37,092 in 2021-22 to 88,156 in 2022-23 and 95,301 in 2023-24, before reaching 64,668 in 2024-25 and 6,75,920 in 2025-26.
The Government clarified that the data on registrations and employment were reported on the Udyam Registration Portal and Udyam Assist Platform. The Udyam Registration Portal was launched on July 1, 2020.
Financial assistance to women-led enterprises in JK also saw substantial support through central schemes. Under the Credit Guarantee Scheme, implemented through the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), 14,682 guarantees worth Rs 685 crore were approved for women-led MSEs in J&K in 2025-26. This followed 16,403 guarantees worth Rs 605 crore in 2024-25.
Over the five-year period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, the number of CGTMSE guarantees approved for women-led MSEs in JK totalled 83,706, involving Rs 2,777 crore.
Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), JK recorded 578 women-led manufacturing micro enterprises assisted in 2025-26, with Rs 12.64 crore in Margin Money subsidy disbursed and estimated employment generation of 4,624.
During the five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26, 7,934 women-led manufacturing micro enterprises in JK were assisted under PMEGP, with Rs 168.99 crore in Margin Money subsidy disbursed and estimated employment generation of 63,472.
The data also showed a sharp rise in the number of women-owned manufacturing MSMEs reported closed in JK, from one in 2021-22 and seven in 2022-23 to 10 in 2023-24, 18 in 2024-25 and 181 in 2025-26.
At the national level, 1,49,393 women-owned manufacturing MSMEs were registered in 2025-26, with employment of 91,09,424 reported. The corresponding figures for the previous year were 22,83,053 registrations and 79,18,791 employment.
The Ministry said the Credit Guarantee Scheme provides guarantees for loans extended by member lending institutions to new and existing micro and small enterprises without collateral security and third-party guarantees. Under PMEGP, women are categorised as a special category and are eligible for Margin Money subsidy of 35 per cent in rural areas and 25 per cent in urban areas.
