Ramadan Crescent Sighted in Jammu Kashmir 

   

SRINAGAR: Nasir-ul-Islam, the Grand Mufti, on Wednesday announced that the Ramadan crescent moon had been sighted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, confirming the start of the holy month across the region from Thursday.

The announcement provided clarity across the Valley after residents awaited official confirmation following Maghrib prayers. Speaking to Kashmir Life, the Grand Mufti said credible testimonies of the moon sighting were received and verified by the official moon-sighting committee.

“With the crescent sighted this evening, the first day of fasting will be observed on Thursday,” he said.

The committee, which includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed the development after cross-checking reports from multiple districts.

Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir will begin observing Ramadan with fasting, prayer and charity from Thursday.
