Police on Friday retrieved body of a Tavera driver from Chenab, a day after the vehicle plunged into the fast-flowing river in Ramban district of Jammu.

Inspector General of Traffic Police, T Namgyal told news agency GNS that one body was recovered so far during the search operation which is going on. “besides driver, only one passenger was travelling in the ill-fated Taveera namely Irshad Ahmad from Banderpora Bijbehara, Anantnag as per the information from Khanabal stand,” IGP said, adding that the body retrieved is identified as that of Mushtaq Ahmad Nanda son of Manzoor Ahmad of KP Road Anantnag. “There may be only two causalities,” he said.

Sources said that the vehicle has been retrieved from the water body and searches are going to retrieve the body of the missing person. However, they said that it was not confirmed if more people had boarded the vehicle on way to Jammu where then vehicle was heading from Khanabal Taxi stand.

Sources said that rescuers comprising quick response teams and police besides locals also found an Identity card of one Suresh Kumar son of Tilak Raj of Pathankot. It was after 17 hours that the vehicle was pulled out from the river, newsagency GNS quoted the sources as saying.
