SRINAGAR: Widespread rainfall continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, with Ramban recording the highest precipitation at 43.5 mm during the nine-hour period ending 5:30 pm, while the Meteorological Department said the current wet spell was expected to persist until late afternoon before conditions gradually improve.
According to rainfall data compiled by Kashmir Weather for the period between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, Ramban received 43.5 mm of rain, followed by Rajouri with 39.0 mm, Katra 36.2 mm, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan 34.5 mm, Reasi 32.0 mm, Jammu 22.0 mm, Poonch 17.0 mm, Batote 16.4 mm, Bhaderwah 9.6 mm and Banihal 6.5 mm.
In the Kashmir Valley, Baramulla recorded the highest rainfall at 20.5 mm, followed by Gulmarg with 14.8 mm, Kokernag 13.0 mm, Qazigund 12.9 mm, Srinagar 10.8 mm, Pahalgam 9.6 mm and Kupwara 2.3 mm.
In Ladakh, Kargil received 1.0 mm of rainfall, while Leh recorded no rain during the same period.
The Meteorological Department said rain was occurring at many places across Jammu and Kashmir and the prevailing spell was likely to continue until late Saturday evening before showing improvement.
The fresh rainfall comes amid an active monsoon phase that has affected several parts of Jammu and Kashmir in recent days, with intermittent showers reported from multiple districts.
