Openers Shubham Khajuria and Qamran Iqbal remained unbeaten after putting together a 149-run partnership, giving the hosts a solid start in reply to Pondicherry’s first-innings total of 385.

Jammu and Kashmir were 149/0 after 50.3 overs, trailing by 236 runs with all 10 wickets intact.

Earlier, Pondicherry, resuming their first innings at 261/6, added 124 runs to their overnight total before being bowled out for 385 in 93.2 overs.

Neyan Shyam Kangayan, who scored 70, and Mohit Kale, with 73, were among the leading contributors for the visitors. Ankit Sharma added 45, while Ritesh Gudge scored 39 as Pondicherry’s lower order helped take the total close to 400.

For Jammu and Kashmir, Sunil Kumar led the bowling effort with three wickets for 59 runs from 20 overs. Waseem Khanday and Umar Nazir Mir also made important contributions with the ball to help the hosts dismiss Pondicherry.

In response, J&K’s opening pair showed patience and composure against the visitors’ bowling attack. Khajuria and Qamran negotiated 50.3 overs without being separated, ensuring the hosts finished the day without losing a wicket.

The unbeaten partnership has put Jammu and Kashmir in a strong position to build their first-innings total on the third day, although they still have a deficit of 236 runs to overcome.
