Engineer Rasheed, MLA Langate and Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) chairperson on Wednesday demanded “Hill Development Councils for Chenab and Pir Panchal regions”.

Talking to Kashmir Life on the sidelines of function, Rasheed said the successive governments have neglected the development of Chenab and Pir Panjal regions.

He said, “If Leh and Kargil could get Hill Development Councils, what stops the government from providing same councils for Chenab and Pir Panchal regions to ensure equitable development.”

Rasheed said despite giving full support to democratic process, the people of Chenab Valley and Pir Panchal lack even basic amenities of life.

The firebrand lawmaker was on a two days tour to the region.

Pertinently, on Tuesday Rasheed along with party spokesman Inam-un-Nabi and other colleagues were detained near Ramban by a huge contingent of police.

However Rasheed was allowed to visit the area later in the night after being detained for hours together.

Rasheed interacted with various deputations at Ramsu, Banihal, Baderwah and Kishtwar.

He also thanked the people of Chenab valley for raising their voice with the people of Kashmir. He assured the people of Chenab Valley that Kashmiris will continue to respect sentiments, sacrifices and aspirations of people of Jammu Province, which are often being down played by New Delhi.
