Making an increase of 26.66 per cent, the Commercial Taxes department (CTD) has realized a revenue of over Rs. 2888.61 crore during the first seven months (ending October 2012) of the current fiscal

During the period of last financial year, the revenue realized was Rs. 2280 crores.  The department has a target to earn revenue of about Rs. 4123 crores during the current financial year,

 This was stated at a quarterly review meeting of the Jammu Division of Commercial Taxes department, held at Excise and Taxation Complex, Jammu. the meeting was chaired by minister for finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather.

It was informed in the meeting that the Jammu Division of Commercial Taxes department, has achieved 69.48 per cent of targeted revenue in the first seven month of the current fiscal by realizing a revenue of over Rs. 2021.19 crores during the same period against a target of Rs. 2909.15 crores for the current financial year .

Speaking on the occasion,  Rather  while urging Officers and field agencies to work with dedication said that Commercial Taxes Department enjoys the premier  position as the highest tax earning department of the state adding that the state’s economic stability largely depends on the performance of the department.

“Set high standards in public relations while dealing with the Traders and Tax payers,” Rather said, adding that “no genuine tax payer should feel harassed un-necessarily. That will not be tolerated.”

He urged for plugging tax pilferages effectively and enjoined for  a vigorous and sustained tax recovery drive against the willful tax defaulters. He also called for an effective monitoring mechanism to get hold of tax evaders and enjoined upon the concerned authorities to vigorously pursue the stay cases pending in the courts.

Rather impressed upon the officers that their ‘performance’ shall be judged by two important indicators which include their attitude and behavior with tax payers, which in all circumstances  should be human and dignified  adding that every dealer/ tax payers has to be treated with dignity and honour and  effective contribution with regard to recovery of arrears shall be another bench mark for their performance.

Appreciating the department for its overall satisfactory performance, Rather said that that there was a scope for brining further improvements and reforms in the tax system.
