Responding to the accusations that “he had lied to the august house”, Langate lawmaker, Er Sheikh Ab Rasheed, Saturday informed the lower house of the J&K Legislature that the he “doesn’t possesses any personal ration card”.

Speaking during the Question Hour, Rasheed who was absent from lower house on Friday, said, “my father is alive and it is obvious that ration card would be registered in my father’s name.”

“Yesterday, a notion was created in this august house that I had lied to house about my ration card,” Rasheed told the Speaker, “truth is this that the ration card registered in my father’s name has been put in BPL category with grave mistakes.”

A few days ago when Chhamb lawmaker sought action against some officials for “putting his ration card in BPL category”, the Langate lawmaker had told the house that he too faces the same problem. Government suspended three officials in Chhamb but Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari on Friday informed the house, “there is no ration card registered in Er Sheikh A Rasheed’s name. He is part of family headed by his father.”

After government’s response, NC’s Mohammad Akbar Lone and PC’s Sajad Gani Lone had sought bringing Breach of Privilege Motion against the “one who had misled the house”.

“Our ration Ghat has been shown some forty KMs away from my home; my mother’s and wife’s names have been wrongly mentioned,” Rasheed told the house seeking action against those “who have done this and disrespected the house.”

Rasheed’s father is a retired teacher, CAPD Minister told the house, “he has shown an income of Rs 10000 and was put in BPL category”. But Rasheed said, “I am part of the same family and had shown Rs 120000 as income. How come it is possible that my family will be included in BPL?”
