Scores of contractual employees of rural development department working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNERGA) on Saturday held a massive protest at Press enclave in Srinagar, demanding the regularisation of their services.

The employees assembled under the banner of ‘All J & K MGNREGA Employees Association’ and were carrying the banners reading ‘We want Justice’ and ‘Save our future’.

“They have assured us several times that our services will be regularised but nothing has happened till now,” said a protester.

Jan Mohd, President of the ‘MGNERGA Employees Association’ said that government is playing with the sentiments of the employees.

“In the month of April this year during our hunger strike we were assured by the RDD minister, Div Com and Director RDD that our services will be regularised but till now we found that government is playing with our sentiments,”.

“If our services are not regularised within the period of eight days, we would go on indefinite strike and for any consequences government shall be responsible,” he said.
