While welcoming shifting of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti from a makeshift detention centre to her official residence, Peoples Conference on Wednesday urged the central government to revoke PSA of the PDPO President and other leaders who continue to remain under detention since August 5 last year.

“Shifting of Mehbooba Mufti to her official residence after more than eight months of detention is a step in the right direction. While she can be with her family and loved ones especially in these distressing times, she continues to remain booked under PSA. We urge the central government to revoke the PSA detention of Mehbooba Mufti and lift all curbs on her movement and interactions with the public and media,” said PC spokesperson, Adnan Ashraf Mir, in a statement.

He also demanded the release of PC Chairman Sajad Gani Lone and all other leaders who continue to remain under detention in their homes or makeshift jails.

“We also demand the immediate release of PC Chairman Sajad Gani Lone, Senior Vice President Abdul Gani Vakil, Shah Faesal, senior PDP & NC leaders, Naeem Akhter, Sartaj Madani, Peer Mansoor, Ali Muhammad Sagar and Hilal Akbar Lone. It has been more than eight months since they were unjustifiably detained on August 5”, he said.

He urged the centre to release political workers of all parties detained under the PSA and kept in various jails within and outside J&K.

“They are our unsung heroes. Spare a thought for them – detained in harshest conditions, locked up hundreds of miles outside J&K, away from their loved ones. We appeal to the government for their immediate release so that they can be with their loved ones in this hour of need,” he said in a statement.
