SRINAGAR: Authorities in Chasana tehsil of Jammu’s Reasi district on late Monday night evacuated 16 families in Hassote village after heavy rains destabilised the hillside and raised the risk of a landslide.
Officials said a team inspected the spot and, considering the threat, ordered immediate relocation of the affected families to safer shelters. People have been advised not to return until experts review the site and declare it safe.
The administration said that continuous downpours have left several parts of Reasi vulnerable to slides, and precautionary measures are being taken to avoid loss of life. Efforts are also underway to identify other sensitive areas across the district where similar dangers exist.
Locals of Hassote expressed concern that recurring spells of rain could permanently endanger their homes, and many urged the government to consider long-term rehabilitation. [KNT]
