In 2015 winter, Ladakh witnessed the emergence of Phuktal artificial lake when a hillock landed in the river and halted the water course. When it burst in the summers, it had destroyed various pieces of infrastructure, mostly bridges.

The government on Friday said the artificial lake had either washed way or seriously damaged four bridges, downstream. These include 40-meters motorable Tsachuthang (Kaya) bridge, 40-meters foot suspension bridge at Wari Dho, 25-meter span foot suspension bridge at Nyeraks ad 60-meter bridge at Blades.

The government said these bridges are being restored under the Prime Ministers Development Package under which Ladakh has got Rs 30 crore, being equally given to Leh and Kargil districts. The Deputy Commissioners in Leh and Kargil have been asked to draft the DPRs for these projects. Unlike Kargil, Leh has submitted the details of the works it intends to undertake under this grant.
