SRINAGAR: Residents of Beli Charana in Jammu have urged the administration to relocate them temporarily to safer areas as the rising water level in the Tawi River has heightened fears of flooding amid the ongoing monsoon crisis that has battered the Jammu region.
The appeal comes as Jammu Division continues to witness relentless rainfall that has triggered flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides over the past three days, leaving at least 23 people dead and seven others missing.
Residents of Beli Charana said the swelling Tawi River had revived memories of last year’s devastating floods and that they were living under the constant threat of inundation. They expressed fears that continued heavy rainfall could result in a repeat of the destruction witnessed during the previous monsoon.
Locals appealed to the administration to take preventive measures by shifting vulnerable families to safer locations until the weather improves and the flood threat subsides.
The residents’ appeal comes amid growing concern over the safety of low-lying settlements along the Tawi River as adverse weather conditions continue to affect large parts of the Jammu region.
