SRINAGAR: Two Kupwara residents have been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a building where a non-local resident was killed earlier this month.

“Two residents of Kupwara, who operated a restaurant in a three-storey shopping complex in the Batergam area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, deliberately ignited the fire to make an insurance claim. This act occurred after they failed to repay a bank loan earlier this month,” reports suggest.

Tragically, during the incident, Muhammad Feroz Alam, an embroiderer from West Bengal residing on the third floor of the complex, lost his life.

The Jammu and Kashmir  police successfully solved the case within a week and apprehended the two individuals involved.

“Abrar and Zakir, were interrogated, and during questioning, two individuals running the restaurant in the building emerged as suspects,” police said.

The officer further said that after a thorough investigation, both individuals admitted their involvement and confessed to setting the building on fire.
