SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court, led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul urged the swift restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

During the announcement of the verdict, Justice Kaul shared, “I have started with historical background. My conclusions are more or less the same, except in one issue, regarding Prem Nath Kaul’s case, I have taken a different route.”

Chief Justice, in concurrence, directed, “We direct that steps shall be taken by the Election Commission of India to conduct elections to the J&K assembly by September 30. Restoration of statehood shall take place as soon as possible.”

The Solicitor General (SG) highlighted that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir would be reinstated, excluding the creation of the Union Territory of Ladakh. This specific aspect remains unresolved and open for future deliberation.
