Stringent security arrangements have been put in place on Saturday in the down town area of the Srinagar city to prevent any protests against Tossa Maidan lease row.

Hurriyat Conference (M), has called for shutdown and protests against any possible extension of the lease.

Hurriyat (M) sources said that police detained Chairman of the amalgam, Mirawiz Umar Farooq in his house at Nigeen.

Locals said a large number of police and para-military troops have been deployed in the old town area of the city and people are denied free movement. Police sources told Kashmir Life that “preventive measures are in place only to maintain law and order.”

Meanwhile, shutdown is being observed in the valley against the possible lease extension of the Tossa Maidan, firing range which is under army occupation from last more than six decades.

Public transport is off the roads and the business establishments are closed however, private transport is plying.
