SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Ruman Qayoom, a Patwari from Halqa Mujagund, Srinagar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
According to a statement from the ACB, they received a written complaint alleging that Qayoom was demanding Rs 1 lakh for the registration stamp duty related to a two-kanal land purchase by the complainant, as well as the issuance of revenue extracts.
After negotiations, the bribe was settled at Rs 50,000 as the first instalment, with the remaining amount due upon completion of the task. However, the complainant chose not to pay the bribe and instead reported the matter to the ACB for legal action against the accused public servant.
Following the receipt of the complaint, discreet verification confirmed the demand made by the accused. Consequently, a case under FIR number 22/2024 was registered, invoking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and an investigation commenced.
“A trap team was formed and successfully apprehended Ruman Qayoom while he was demanding and accepting the bribe. After completing the necessary formalities, the accused was taken into custody, and further investigation into the case is ongoing,” the statement reads.
