Revenue Official Arrested While Taking Bribe in Jammu Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a revenue official (Patwari) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Rajouri district, following a complaint filed by a citizen seeking attested revenue records.

“ACB said it received a complaint stating that the complainant required attested copies of the Khasra Girdawari of his land situated in Village Dhara. He had already applied for the same through the online mode on 26 April 2025, but Patwari Mohd. Jameel was allegedly demanding a bribe to provide the attested documents,” reads a statement issued bY ACB.

As the complainant did not wish to pay the bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and requested legal action against the official.

“Following the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for the bribe. Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 02/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri, and investigation was initiated. During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the Patwari red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot after following due legal procedure,” it adds.

Subsequently, a search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused, located in Poonch. Further investigation into the case is underway.
