Srinagar

Finally, Rikshaw’s are here. In a first, an elderly man was seen riding a Rikshaw on busy MA Road in Srinagar on Tuesday. A typical bicycle driven Rikshaw made its first sighting in Kashmir as it started ferrying passengers, two at a time, between Nehru Park and Dalgate.

Instantly, what is part of daily life in other major cities, turned heads in Kashmir as the Rikshaw made its way through busy MA Road, towards its destination in Dalgate.

According to a video clip shot near Polo View market, the owner of the Rickshaw, a non-native, has brought this “new” mode of transportation to Kashmir from Amritsar in Punjab.

With no competition whatsoever the Rikshaw puller has set rates at Rs 20 a trip between Dalgat and Nehru Park. “I make about Rs 250 a day as people are not yet aware of it,” said the Rikshaw puller on video.
