A family from Sumbal Thursday alleged due to ‘political pressure’ police is not taking any action against a driver who seriously injured their 3 years old son with his Tata Mobile vehicle.

The mother of three years old kid Aqib Hamid Mir told CNS that a Tata Mobile van that was driven by one Bilal Ahmed Ganaie son of Muhammad Shafi resident of Arampora Sumbal hit her son and injured him seriously. “My son has lost both the legs while the doctors at SKIMS told us that it will incur at least Rs 3 lakh for his treatment,” she said adding irony is that police did not even arrest the erring driver.

The mother of the injured kid said that a top police official informed them a political leader does not want any action should be initiated against the erring driver. “Police neither arrested him nor seized his vehicle,” she said.

Terming the allegations baseless, SDPO Sumbal Irshad Ahmed told CNS that police not only seized the Tata Mobile van but also arrested the erring driver. “We registered a case vide FIR number 206/2013 under section 279 and 337 of RPC. The accused has been bailed out while the Court ordered the release of vehicle today,” SDPO said adding that they will soon file a challan regarding this case in the court of law.
