SRINAGAR: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of former Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS officer Rohit Kansal as Secretary in the Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Kansal, who was serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, has been elevated to the position at the Centre following the superannuation of the incumbent officer.
A 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, Kansal has previously held key administrative roles in Jammu and Kashmir before his transition to the central government. During his tenure in the Union Territory, he handled important responsibilities in sectors such as power, planning, and information, and also served as a government spokesperson during the 2019 administrative changes in the region.
An alumnus of IIM Kolkata and a fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, he has been associated with infrastructure development initiatives and public communication roles throughout his career.
