SRINAGAR: More than 1,200 nomadic Pashmina herders from Ladakh’s Changthang region were provided Rs 1.10 crore as a production-based incentive at the Changthang Nomadic Festival 2026 held at Tso Moriri, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said.
Saxena said the incentive was part of the 25 per cent production-based support announced for Pashmina growers. Raw Pashmina collection in Ladakh has increased to 19 metric tonnes this year, surpassing the 16 MT collected during the whole of 2025, he said.
The administration has also provided a revolving fund of Rs 8 crore to the All Changthang Pashmina Growers Marketing Cooperative Society to facilitate timely payments to Pashmina herders, according to the LG.

Saxena urged Pashmina growers to adopt scientific methods to increase the average raw Pashmina yield from the present 200 grams to 350 grams per goat.
He also called for increasing the Pashmina goat population from around two lakh to four lakh within three years.
More than 10,000 visitors attended the Changthang Nomadic Festival at Tso Moriri, he said.
Saxena said the administration remained committed to improving economic returns for nomadic and pastoral communities dependent on Pashmina production.
