In its ongoing anti polythene drive the Srinagar Municipality Corporation (SMC) since January 2013 upto June 2013 has seized three hundred seventy quintal of polythene, recovered Rs one lakh and seventy three thousand as fine and also launched 196 prosecutions.

As per a statement SMC today seized at least 280 kg of polythene from a shopkeeper at Parimpora. The offender dealing with the packaging material was prosecuted and proceedings initiated to lodge an FIR against the same.

The drive was monitored by Anti Polythene Officer Akbar Sofi. The Polythene wing of the Corporation under the command and control of Commissioner SMC Dr Qasba has recovered 370 quintals of polythene with the total number of 500 raids conducted Since January 2013 up to June 2013.

Mean while continuing with its anti encroachment drive, the Enforcement wing headed by Hakeem Aijaz has removed various chronic encroachments occupied by the street vendors from various areas of the city including  Lal Chowk, Karan Nagar, Batamaloo, Dalgate.

The statement also reads that some of the vehicles found wrongly parked were caught and pasted with stickers and the necessary details were sent to the SSP traffic for further course of action taken under law.

The encroachment drive was supervised by Enforcement Officers including Nisar Shah, Gh Rasool and Farooq Shah.
