Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that government has provided Rs 139.43 crore to the deserving BPL families of the state for construction of dwelling units under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) up to ending January.

The Minister said that an amount of Rs 4.51 crore has been disbursed in Kathua district under IAY, out of which Rs 1.04 crore has been distributed to the BPL families of Bani constituency for construction of their dwelling units during the said period.

The Rural Development Minister said that IAY funds are allocated strictly as per the guidelines of the scheme and wait list prepared at block level on the basis of BPL population.

The minister was replying to a question by Lal Chand in the assembly today.

While replying to another question by Choudhary Sham Lal, the Minister said that one hundred latrines under IHHL have been constructed in Suchetgarh Constituency during last financial year and current fiscal so far.

The Minister said that state government is implementing schemes like Total Sanitation campaign and Nirmal Bharat Abhyan under which individual household latrines are constructed for all BPL families and identified APLs (SCs/STs) small and marginal farmers, women headed households and physically handicapped APL families within gram-panchayat. The Minister assured that more toilet points would be constructed in Suchetgarh border constituency under Nirmal Bharat Abhyan Scheme.
