SRINAGAR: Outstanding gratuity and General Provident Fund liabilities of the government stood at Rs 5106 crore as of January 31, 2026, the Assembly was told, with payments to retirees linked to the government’s overall liquidity position rather than a fixed clearance timeline.
The disclosure came in reply to a starred question tabled by MLA Rajeshwar Singh. The government said bills pertaining to gratuity and GPF are being cleared periodically “as per availability of resources”. It specified that the accrued liability was Rs 1,635 crore on account of gratuity and Rs 3471 crore for GPF.
Responding to a query on when the liability would be cleared, the reply did not provide a date. It stated that the clearance of bills depends on the overall liquidity position of the government.
