SRINAGAR: Police have solved a house theft case in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district within 24 hours of receiving the complaint, recovering the remaining stolen cash and seizing a motorcycle and mobile phone allegedly purchased with part of the proceeds.
The case relates to the theft of Rs 3.30 lakh in cash from a house in Bazipora Ajas on September 13, 2026. Police Post Ajas received a written complaint from Ghulam Nabi Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, a resident of Ajas Bazipora, on September 14.
Following the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Sumbal and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, police teams examined CCTV footage and technical evidence and questioned several suspects. The investigation subsequently led police to Tawfeeq Ahmad Kalwathoo, son of Ghulam Mohd Kalwathoo, a resident of Bakshibal, Hajin, who was apprehended.
According to police, the accused allegedly admitted his involvement in the theft during questioning. He reportedly disclosed that he had spent Rs 20,000 of the stolen money on purchasing a motorcycle and Rs 16,000 on a mobile phone, while keeping the remaining cash in his room.
Acting on the disclosure, police searched the specified premises and recovered the remaining stolen cash from the accused’s room. The motorcycle and mobile phone allegedly bought using the stolen money were also taken into possession as part of the investigation.
The recovery and seizure have been made as the investigation into the case continues.
