SRINAGAR: A grand District Mega Kisan Mela was inaugurated today at Ghatti, Kathua by Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Election Department, Javid Ahmed Dar. The event brought together farmers, agriculture experts, and SKUAST scientists for knowledge sharing, technological demonstrations, and farmer–scientist interactions.
During the inauguration, Dar laid the foundation stone for a Rs 349.94 lakh Goat Farm at Rajbagh, aimed at enhancing livestock infrastructure and farmer livelihoods. He urged farmers to move from primary to secondary agriculture and connect with direct marketing channels to improve income.
The Mela also showcased modern machinery, improved seed varieties, integrated and organic farming technologies, and departmental initiatives targeting increased farmer earnings. Technical sessions by SKUAST scientists provided practical solutions to field challenges.
Officials including Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Director Agriculture Jammu Anil Gupta, HoDs of allied departments, and DDC representatives attended the event.
