SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on Saturday laid the foundation stones for a health sub-centre and four road projects in Kulgam district, besides inaugurating an under-19 girls’ inter-district baseball tournament.
The health sub-centre at Gandwani will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh, while the four road projects have a combined estimated cost of Rs 4.30 crore.
The road works include the construction and maintenance of the Chechmulla-Aharbal road to Lonepora stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 366.81 lakh, a road from Khuri Batapora ITI to Sheikhnagin at Rs 30 lakh, Aharbal Main Road to Chandar Manzgam-A at Rs 18 lakh, and a road from the house of Bashir Mirza to Gujar Basti Kawtaqri at Rs 15 lakh.
The projects are intended to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people in adjoining areas, according to officials.
Earlier, Itoo inaugurated the Under-19 Girls’ Baseball Inter-District Tournament at L/NK Shri Nazir Ahmad Wani Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Kulgam. The event, hosted by the Youth Services and Sports Department, Kulgam, is being attended by teams from all districts of the Kashmir division.
Itoo appreciated the department’s efforts to provide young athletes with opportunities to participate in sporting activities and encouraged youth in Jammu and Kashmir to take part in sports.
During her visit, the minister also interacted with local residents and took feedback on public welfare issues and the delivery of government services.
She directed sectoral and district-level officers to regularly monitor the ongoing works and ensure their timely completion.
The minister was accompanied by District Programme Officer, ICDS Kulgam Zaheer Ahmad Kafi, SDM DH Pora Bashir-ul-Hassan, Assistant Commissioner Development Kulgam Bilal Kamgar, the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, executive engineers from PDD, Jal Shakti and Irrigation and Flood Control departments, and the Executive Engineer, R&B DH Pora, besides other officials.
