Former IAS officer who is now PDP candidate from Bhaderwah has declared total assets of the family, acquired and inherited by the couple at Rs 586.57 lakh. They have been filing returns on an income of Rs 1713103, the affidavit that Iqbal submitted to the Election Commission reads.Mehboob Iqbal

While Iqbal has declared his movable assets worth Rs 122.8 lakh, his wife, home-maker owns assets worth Rs 138.77 lakhs. It includes five FDRs of Rs 10 lakh each, and two cars. The husband and wife are heavily insured as Iqbal has four LIC policies and his wife seven. Mrs Iqbal also owns gold worth Rs 16 lakh.

As far as the immovable property is concerned, Iqbal has declared assets worth Rs 2.85 crore which is six times more than that of his wife which owns only Rs 40 lakh. The immovable assets include non-agricultural land (apparently residential) in Channi Himmat Jammu (owned by Iqbal) and Rawalpora (owned by his wife) besides a house each at Trikuta Nagar and Greater Kailash (Jammu). They also have inherited part of the house in Bhaderwah as well.

The family has shown a liability of Rs 6.13 lakh on account of a car loan.
Interestingly, Iqbal who retired as Commissioner rank officer in state government has declared that value of his inherited assets is only Rs 4.75 lakh and he has acquired assets worth Rs 280.38 lakh. The former officer has also mentioned a Vigilance case being registered against him in Baramulla on September 26, 2012
