Gujjar-Bakerwal Students Welfare Association Saturday reacted to the controversial statement of Minister for Forest and Ecology, Ch Lal Singh.

Lal Singh had used abusive language against a delegation which visited him on May 18 and asked them: “have you forgotten 1947?”

“The minister instead of listening to their problems abused them and thrown them out of his office which is highly condemnable and intolerable act,” state Vice-President of the association, Zahid Parwaz Ch, said in a statement this evening.

“How common people can expect this kind of statement from a cabinet Minister who is the real custodian and representative of common masses in the eye of law,” Zahid asked.

Ch Yaseen Poswal, Secretary General of Gujjar-Bakerwal Conference demanded stern action against the minister. “Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir are not in the same position as they were in 1947,” he said, “the minister should remind the Government to return the land of Gujjars encroached in 1947 Massacre.”

Poswal warned the minister for his alleged drive against the Gujjar community of the state “in the name of” Forest eviction drive. “Nomad Gujjars and Bakerwals are unnecessarily being harassed and they are not allowed to move freely on their traditional routes during their migration which is forcing the community to abandon their tradition occupations and to come on roads in protest,” he alleged.

“The statement revealed the real face of RSS lead Government and the conspiracy of the Government against the Gujjar community and such acts are repeated from time to time to free Jammu from Muslims and Saroor incident, eviction drive against Gujjars in Gole Gujral, Sidhra, Reka are some of the conspiracies against Muslims in Jammu,” the statement added.
