SRINAGAR: Daughter of former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s daughter, Dr Rubiya Sherif (earlier Rubaiya Sayeed) has lodged a complaint with Abiramapuram police in Chennai saying she had been receiving obscene calls on her mobile phone, Times of India reported.

The calls, Rubiya, 55 said made from three numbers, including international had been troubling her since Monday and she had blocked the caller.

Police, as per the report has registered a case under IPC sections 294 (B) (using obscene language) and 354 (d) (stalking).

“We are trying to trace the caller,” police officials are quoted to have said.

Earlier known as Rubiya Sayeed, she along with her husband Showkat Sherif moved to Chennai a decade ago and settled at Kesavaperumalpuram.

This is not the first time when the couple faced threats. In 2015, as per the report, Showkat received a letter asking him to deliver Rs 5 lac to a grocery shop, failing which he and his family members would be killed.

In December 1989, few days after Mufti Sayeed took over as first Muslim home minister of India, Rubiya was kidnapped in Kashmir. Later after setting few militants free, she was released.
