SRINAGAR: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have devised a mechanism to issue domicile certificates to the spouses of the domicile holders, reports in the media suggest. Rules have been amended to offer the service.

Under the notification issued under Article 209 of the Constitution of India, read with Section 15 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Decentralization and Recruitment) Act, 2010, the government has added Clause 7 in the table appended to sub-rule (1) of rule 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rules, 2020, after S No /Clause 6.

This category of Domicile will also be issued by the Tehsildar and the applicant is required to apply along with the Domicile certificate of the spouse and valid proof of marriage.

The order has modified the applicability of domicile conditions to all levels of jobs in Jammu and Kashmir under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Decentralisation and Recruitment) Act.
