SRINAGAR: An employee of Rural Development Department was shot and critically injured in Nildoora village of Shopian eventually succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Identified as Sabzar Ahmad Naikoo son of Abdul Rasheed Naikoo, police sources said he was shot at by unidentified gunmen. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment wherefrom he was shifted to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital owing to his “critical injuries”. He, however, succumbed to the injuries. Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary confirmed his death.
In a statement, police said they rushed to the spot at around 1940hrs after receiving the report.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists had fired upon one civilian at his residence in Nildora area of Shopian. He has been identified as Sabzar Ahmad Naiko son of Abdul Rashid resident of Nildora Shopian. He has received gunshot injuries in this incident. The injured civilian has been evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries where he succumbed to his injuries,” it said.
A case has been registered and the investigations are underway. The area has been cordoned and searches in the area is going on, police added.
