SRINAGAR: Russia denounced what it described as “subversive external interference” in Iran’s internal affairs and said US threats of fresh military strikes against Tehran were “categorically unacceptable”, Reuters reported.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that those seeking to exploit externally instigated unrest as a pretext for renewed aggression against Iran must understand the “disastrous consequences” such actions would have for the Middle East and global security.
Moscow’s remarks amounted to a sharp caution to Washington amid escalating rhetoric and increased military activity in the region. Russian officials said any attack on Iran could trigger far-reaching instability and risk drawing major powers into a wider confrontation, according to RT.
The warning came hours after US President Donald Trump urged Iranian protesters to continue demonstrations and suggested that outside support was forthcoming, without providing specifics.
“Iranian patriots, keep protesting – take over your institutions,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that he had cancelled meetings with Iranian officials and claimed that “help is on its way,” a message that further heightened tensions surrounding the unfolding crisis.
The situation in Iran has worsened significantly in recent days, with the death toll from the nationwide protests crossing 2,000, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).
