Rusted Mortar Shell Detected at Army Convoy Ground in North Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: A rusted mortar shell was detected at an Army convoy ground in Boniyar area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir, triggering immediate security measures and a controlled disposal operation.

Officials said a 51 mm rusted mortar shell was found at the convoy ground in Boniyar during a digging process.

Soon after the detection, the Bomb Disposal Squad was alerted, and the area was secured to prevent any untoward incident. The BDS squad of 292 Field Engineering Company reached the spot and carried out a controlled operation.

Officials said the old mortar shell was safely destroyed on the spot following standard operating procedures. No loss of life or property was reported during the operation.

SSP Baramulla, Gurinder Pal Singh told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that it was an old shell that had been recovered while ground was being dug. Subsequently, after the recovery, it was defused successfully. [KNT]
