SRINAGAR: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Russia from August 19 to 21 to co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC), as per several media reports.
As per NDTV report, Jaishankar will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. He is also scheduled to address the India-Russia Business Forum in Moscow.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit aims to review bilateral ties, discuss regional and global issues, and strengthen the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between the two nations.
The development comes against the backdrop of fresh strain in India-US relations over New Delhi’s continued oil imports from Russia. Washington recently imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, raising the total levy to 50 percent. In protest, a US delegation has cancelled the sixth round of trade talks scheduled for August 25.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Jaishankar and Lavrov would hold wide-ranging talks on bilateral cooperation and global issues within multilateral frameworks.
