Dispelling the notion that the state government was instrumental in speaker’s decision in disallowing the resolution seeking return of Mohammad Afzal Guru’s mortal remains from Tihar Jail, the Government Wednesday said, that the separatists could not dictate to them on the issue.

The government also said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has personally taken up the matter with the Prime Minster, besides having written to the union government officially about it.

“Geelani sahib and Mirwaiz Sahab have their own stand. They can’t dictate to us, nor do we stop them from expressing their views”, Senior Minster Ali Mohammad Sagar told   KNS on Wednesday evening. He said, Chief Minster had made his and his government’s  stand clear to the GOI that the mortal remains of Guru should be handed over to his relatives on humanitarian grounds.

While refusing to comment on behalf of the speaker, Sagar said that speaker in his own wisdom had taken the decision.

However, according to Sagar, the speaker had given clear reason and grounds in support of his refusal to allow the resolution for discussion.

“We have had abundant discussion on the issue, and all parties including NC, Congress, Independent MLA Er. Rashid, CPI (M),PDF etc. have spoken on it. Even the issue was discussed during zero hour also. So what else you want?”, asked Sagar.

Pertinently chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat conference Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq earlier accused state government of sabotaging the resolution and said, “ assembly was being run on the directions of New Delhi.”
