In order to deal with the offences against women, the government has constituted a Committee to recommend amendments to make the existing laws dealing with the offences against women more stringent.

The committee was constituted by the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah, while chairing a high level meeting.

As per a statement the Committee headed by Advocate General with  Secretary Law, Director Prosecution and Special Secretary Law as its members will  submit its report within a week’ s time. In this regard the department has also sought suggestions from law experts, civil society members and academicians to make such laws more effective. The Committee has also been asked to study the Justice Verma Committee report.

The issues regarding bail provision, time period for investigation, trial period, classification of cases, strengthening of women police stations and their jurisdiction, the rank of officers to be appointed as investigation officer in such cases and recording of statement under section 164, were discussed threadbare during the meeting.
