Sakina Itoo Distributes Rs 13 Lakh Relief Among Baramulla Fire Victims

   

SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakina Itoo, on Wednesday, distributed relief cheques amounting to Rs 13 lakh among 25 families affected by the devastating March fire in Mohalla Jalal Sahib, Old Town Baramulla.

The compensation, sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, was handed over during a formal ceremony held at the Dak Bungalow. The event was attended by MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baig, MLA Uri Sajjad Shafi, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, and senior officials of the district administration.

While distributing the cheques, Itoo expressed deep solidarity with the victims and reiterated the government’s unwavering support to citizens during emergencies. “This is not just financial aid, it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to stand by our people during distressing times,” she said.

The Minister urged the district administration to ensure the swift implementation of rehabilitation measures and also stressed the need for enhanced fire safety infrastructure in vulnerable localities. She directed concerned officials to raise public awareness and put in place proactive fire prevention mechanisms.

During her interaction with the affected families, Itoo assured them of continued government support, promising that all possible steps would be taken to help them rebuild their lives.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely relief and acknowledged the government’s swift response following the incident.

The fire, which broke out in March 2025, had destroyed 13 residential structures, leaving 25 families displaced and in urgent need of assistance. The latest round of relief marks a key step in ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the area.
