SRINAGAR: The Minister for Health and Medical Education (H&ME), Sakina Itoo, on Friday directed the officials to detach attached doctors immediately.
Speaking to reporters after taking a review meeting in Anantnag, Sakina Itoo said that health is a vital sector, and patient care cannot be compromised at any cost.
She said that officials were directed to detach all doctors who have been attached, so that the patients, who have been suffering due to the lack of treatment, can receive better care.
The Minister further stated that any doctor found involved in private practice during duty hours will face stern action. She mentioned that the government has made efforts to shift the Maternity and Child Care Hospital in Anantnag, but some people are hindering the process. They will be held responsible if any untoward incident occurs at the hospital, as it is currently operating from an unsafe building.
When asked about a new building for maternity and child care in Anantnag, Itoo said that constructing a new hospital is a long process and questioned who would be held responsible if an untoward incident were to take place.
She added that the government has been seeking alternatives to shift the hospital as soon as possible.
Regarding the enhancement of stipends for internees, Sakina said that, at present, they are receiving Rs 12,000 per month. While an immediate enhancement isn’t possible, it is under active consideration by the government and will be implemented very soon. (KNO)
