Sanat Nagar Flyover Set to Open by August as Power Line Hurdle Cleared

SRINAGAR: The Sanat Nagar flyover in Srinagar, the final major structure along the city’s bypass route, is now expected to be completed and opened for vehicular traffic by the end of August, officials from the Roads and Buildings (R and B) Department have confirmed.

Officials said the flyover’s construction was hampered for months due to a 132 KV high-tension power line that passed directly above the under-construction stretch, posing significant safety concerns and necessitating technical realignment.

An official from the R and B Department said that the issue has now been resolved. “The power line hurdle has been cleared and amendment work is currently underway. We are aiming to make the bridge operational by August this year,” the official stated.

The official further added that a new tower for the power line was constructed following successful land acquisition and groundwork in coordination with the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL).

The Sanat Nagar flyover is a part of the National Highway Authority of India’s (NHAI) broader infrastructure plan to ease traffic congestion along a 3.23-kilometre stretch of NH-44 by constructing three key flyovers—at Bemina, Nowgam, and Sanat Nagar. While the Bemina and Nowgam flyovers are already functional, the Sanat Nagar section was delayed primarily due to prolonged utility clearance issues.

Daily commuters expressed relief at the progress. “We face traffic jams every day at Sanat Nagar. The flyover will really help ease our travel,” said Zubair Ahmad, a resident of Natipora. Tahoor Wani from Baghat added, “Once this flyover opens, the route from Barzulla to Nowgam will be much faster and smoother.”

With technical hurdles resolved and amendment work progressing, officials say the project is now on track for timely completion. (KNO)
