One of the founding father of Kashmir Freedom movement and ex-president of Pakistan administered Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, passed away in Islamabad Friday after prolonged illness, reports said.

He was a leader of Muslim Conference. Khan was 91.

Born on April 4, 1924 in Ghaziabad area of district Bagh of Jammu & Kashmir, his role has been recognized as ‘The First Initiator of Kashmir Freedom Movement’.

Khan became Minister of AJK in 1952. In 1979, he was appointed Member Constituent Council World Muslim League (Rabita-al-Alam Al Islami) Makkah Mukkarramah, Saudi Arabia.

In 1985, he was elected President of the State by the Assembly. In 1991, he resigned from the office and was elected as Prime Minister by the assembly.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (m) cheif Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will lead Gaibana Nimaz-e-Jinaza (Jinaza in Absentia) just after the Friday prayers.
