The ancient Satbaran caves – the seven doors of carved stone -in Kupwara district have been declared a state protected monument by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The state government has declared Satbaran caves as state protected monument, Minister for Tourism and Culture Nawang Rigzin Jora said on Wednesday.

Satbaran caves, which depict great architecture of ancient times, are located in between Madhmudu and Lashtyal villages in border district of Kupwara.

The minister said declaration of Kalaroos cave in the district as state protected is under consideration of the government.Kalaroos cave is located between Lashtyal and Madhmadu villages in Kupwara district.

The tunnel-like long caves and giant rock-sculptures, are of historical, archaeological and artistic interests which lie ‘unprotected’ and ‘unpreserved’ in Kalaroos area.
