SRINAGAR: Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik has said that no militant could enter within the 50–100-kilometre range of Srinagar.

“During my tenure as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, no terrorists could enter within the 50-100 kms range of Srinagar. But now, terrorists are killing poor people in Srinagar. This is really saddening,” the former governor of the Jammu and Kashmir is reported to have said.

Malik’s comments come in the backdrop of recent surge in civilian killings in Kashmir. Kashmir valley has recently seen a spike in targeted killing of civilians and his comments could be a dig at the incumbent administration for their handling of affairs in the UT.

Malik was the governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and oversaw the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir after the reading down of Article 370 in August 2019. His departure from Kashmir was unceremonious.
